Ongoing Recruitment for Skills Trainers   –   Oahu

Status:  Part time – Regular (Assignments vary from 4 to 32 hours or more/week)

Job Summary:  Skills Trainer (para professional) provide 1 to 1 adult supervision to students who have behavioral health challenges to assimilate in their school, home and community.  The skills trainer addresses skills of daily living academic, vocational and/or recreational activities subject to the goals and objectives set forth in the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for the student (also referred to as “client”).

Minimum Education Requirements:
*must pass both a Math 100 and English 100 level courses or higher to qualify and

  • *Associate Degree or Higher from Accredited University/College (will also accept *48 college credit or more if still working towards AA or BA degree)
  • Concentrated area(s) of study preferred being at least one of the following: Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, General Education, Special Education, Early Education, Pre-Med, Nursing, Speech or Occupational Therapy, and Criminal Justice

Previous Work Experience Preferred:  At least 1 year or more experience working with children (preschool – 18 years old) in school or after school setting, or as a teacher, tutor, or mentor roles.

Work Schedule: Varies/Flexible.  Most work hours are between 7:30a – 3:30p Monday – Friday. Some limited weekend and evening work schedules. May be required to work on holidays.  Must be available to work at least 2 - 3 weekdays (Mon.-Fri.) per week.

Pay Rate:  Varies depending on educational degree and work experience:
                        AA/AS Degree                                    starting at $17.00 per hour
                        BA/BS Degree or higher         starting at $18.00 per hour

Special RequirementsAll qualified candidates must also have:  (a) TB Clearance Certificate (within last 12 months)  see: http://www.hawaii.gov/health/family-child-health/contagious-disease/tb (b) Two valid forms of identification to complete Federal I-9 Documentation  (c) Copy of college transcripts and/or diploma.  (d) Current Hawaii Criminal Abstract (w/in last 30 days)  see: http://hawaii.gov/ag/hcjdc/main/criminal_history/.  HBH will conduct a current Child Neglect background check of all qualified applicants prior to employment.
